Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at sales@hplm.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The most common issue HPLM faces on jobs is the site not being entirely ready due to being a hectic construction zone.

Obstructions such as; skip-bins, pallets of materials, containers, piles of landscaping soil, mud tracked through the area and parked immovable vehicles frequently result in call-backs once they have been removed.

Other workers hosing water over sections of the work zone also regularly results in call-backs.

The best solution for these issues is to notify everyone on-site in advance that linemarking has been scheduled, sign and close the access points and ensure the area remains clear

We use a range of paints, chosen to ensure surface compatibility. Our  primary preference is for Chlorinated Rubber paint, however we also  regularly use 2-part epoxy, Waterborne paint and thermoplastics. Adhesion-promoting sealers and encapsulation coatings are also used where required.

Where it is viable, we try to work during standard business hours.

We also operate after-hours shifts on weekends and public holidays to minimise disruption to the clients business activities.

For new asphalt surfaces, surface preparation is not required. However, we  highly recommend allowing the asphalt to cure for 30 days prior to  painting.

For older asphalt and concrete surfaces, and also for remarking over existing lines, we generally recommend preparation by high-pressure water-blasting. This removes any embedded dirt, loose material and also removes any existing flakey paint that will otherwise cause the new markings to fail prematurely.

Other methods of surface treatment include: shot-blasting, grinding, scarifying and the application of adhesion promoting penetrative sealers.

Surface preparation is generally advised on a case by case basis as environments vary considerably.

Yes!  When new markings fail prematurely, 90% of the time it is caused by the new paint sticking perfectly to the existing paint, but the old paint flakes off, taking the new paint with it.

High pressure waterblasting strips off any failing existing paint and creates a clean surface free from grime, providing an ideal surface for the new paint to adhere to.

Utilising a waterblaster onsite also affords HPLM the opportunity to strip off adjacent obsolete markings, improving the final image of the site.

Yes, where the linemarking is only temporary.

However, while we will still provide perfect workmanship quality and precision, HPLM cannot warranty the longevity of the paint when the surface has not been prepared.

NB. Unprepared surfaces can sometimes get lucky with the paint adhering very well and lasting, but not consistently.

Thermoplastic markings are cured within 5 minutes.

Chlorinated rubber and Waterborne traffic paints are dry enough to open to traffic within 30 minutes (weather dependent).

Epoxies and plural component products can take several hours to be dry enough for traffic.

Full cure for all liquid paints take 24 hours. We recommend keeping traffic off new paint for several hours to allow the initial surface stickiness to diminish, minimising dust off tyres and shoes from dirtying the new paint.

HPLM will generally remain onsite until the paints are dry enough to open to traffic.

We guarantee that all work will be perfect when we leave the site!

All work will be measured out, applied and completed exactly to specification.

Any rectifications for our errors or omissions will incur no call-out fee.

6 months warranty is provided for all Chlorinated Rubber and Waterborne paints.

12 months warranty is provided for all Epoxies and Thermoplastics applied.

This is conditional on the surface preparation recommended by HPLM being done.

This excludes the "expected wear and tear" on the paint and excludes damage to the paint from things such as tyre spin, scraping and staining by oils.

Warranties on furniture and hardware vary, but are as the manufacturer provides.

NB. Paints and Thermoplastics typically last significantly longer than the above warranty implies. The warranty is based on high traffic locations such as entrances/exits at shopping malls.
